Introduction to Conservation Easements

Conservation Easements have been incredibly popular with landowners in Virginia. For altruistic purposes and financial incentives they are to the benefit of the landowner and general public alike. Virginia leads the nation, with a select few states, in our conservation easement program and something I frequently discuss with clients. The link below offers an excellent introduction from the Piedmont Environmental Council website.

A voluntary land preservation agreement between a landowner and a land conservation organization, designed to protect the agricultural resources, forest resources, scenic open space, or wildlife habitat that may exist on a property.
